"The Evolved Soul" Original Acrylic Abstract Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

The color turquoise symbolizes calmness and new growth. For this reason, nurses often choose the color aquamarine, a form of the color turquoise, for their smocks. Turquoise comes from the French for "Turk". My painting, The Evolved Soul uses the color, turquoise, as unifying agent.

"An Eye For It" Original Acrylic Abstract Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

My inspiration for An Eye For It came from my head as I thought about large looping shapes interlocking on the canvas. After completion, the shapes I have created in the acrylic painting remind me of eyes and the colors are harmonious!

"Guilding The Lily II" Original Watercolor Floral Landscape Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Water lilies are aquatic plants which are rooted in soil but have leaves and flowers that float on the water's surface. Don't you think my painting of water lilies rivals those of Claude Monet! The loose technique while applying the paint used in this watercolor painting is what gives it an abstract feeling. Guilding the Lily II and Guilding the Lily I make excellent companions when hung side by side or one over the other!

"Backyard Snow" Original Watercolor Landscape Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

In the south, the snowflake is a rare occurence. We hope for a glimpse of this blanket of white especially if we have lived in the mountains of North Carolina and have enjoyed the beauty of a snowfall often during our childhood. Just last year I was able to describe this view outside my art studio on watercolor paper. This particular painting was done from early morning light.

"Montalcino" Original Watercolor Landscape Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Montalcino, Italy is a small city whose ancestors stubbornly resisted the Germans during World War II. The regions farmers made wine for centuries. I spotted the man in the orange shirt on a sunny afternoon outside the winery! Sometimes, it is merely a spot of color or the gesture of a figure that makes me want to paint!

"Brugge Canal-1" Original Watercolor Landscape Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Brugge, Belgium is a historic port city of northwest Belgium. Brugge is sometimes referred to as "The Venice of the North". At one time this beautiful city was "the chief commercial city" of the world. Having the fortune of visiting Brugge on two different occasions, I am drawn to the charm buildings that stand along the edges of the canals. Each has it's own texture, developed over the years by weather and time. I hope to capture the patina of the surface of the buildings with the medium of watercolor. I highly recommend a trip to this beautiful area of the world.

"A Stroll Along the Groeneri" Original Watercolor Landscape by Deanna Jaugstetter

Walking alongside the canals in Brugge, Belgium is a delightful excursion. Market Square is where you will find the famous chocolates, exquisite laces, and woven tapestries for sale. Lunch around Market Square is well worth taking in especially if you happen to be seated by the window looking out on the awesome architectural sites. I have always been a sucker for cobblestone streets; maybe it is my country roots! A Stroll Along the Groeneri is a watercolor painting of tourists and Brugge citizens enjoying a stroll beside the canal, while tourists row by in the little boats with famous Belgian chocolates in their packages.!

"The Siena Experience" Original Watercolor Landscape by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Siena,Italy is surrounded by wine yards and olive groves, is spread out over three hills in the center of Tuscany. Its picturesque houses and small streets wind up to the charming Piazza del Campo. Restaurant, Osteria Le Logge, formerly an old phamacia is the setting for this watercolor painting. Dining tables are set up outside the entry walls of the stone structure and sophisticated waiters and waitresses relay the fare. The vision of a delectable dessert is embedding in my memory; a puff pastry with whipped cream and custard! Somehow, food never tastes as good indoors as it does in the open air, don't you agree!!

"Sargent" Original Watercolor Figurative Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

John Singer Sargent was a brilliant watercolorist whose artwork I admire! An old black and white photo of Sargent inspired this watercolor painting of Sargent enjoying a plein air outing. My plein air painting associates are grateful for Georgia's warm days that make the plein air experience more enticing than painting in the studio. Regularly painting the figure from life has increased my knowledge of line and form.

"Dining In Calcatta" Original Watercolor Landscape Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Calcatta, Italy, is little known to most tourists as an ancient town built on volcanic cliffs in the 1500's. Calcatta was once condemned by the Italian government in the 1930's but is now considered as one of the grooviest towns in the area surrounding Rome. After being told that Calcatta existed, my husband and 4 friends hired a driver out of Rome, Italy to drive us to this jewel of a place high above the trees! To the delight of our ears, as we entered the town through a stairway of masonry of stone, we heard "Ave Maria", being sung by an Italian gentleman in the tiny church there! Dining in Calcatta ,a watercolor, is a glimpse of such a fascinating place!

"Backyard Snow II" Original Watercolor Landscape Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Outside my studio windows the late afternoon light comes from the west. Atlanta happened to have a rare occurrence of a snowfall which was wooing me into the studio! It was very therapeutic sitting at my drafting table describing with watercolor this beautiful dance of light over the snow and tree trunks.
